+ Who can benefit from a BOD POD test?
This test is useful for anyone who wants to learn about their overall body fat percentage - fat versus fat-free mass.
+ Why should I know my body composition?
Body composition is an excellent indicator of overall health. It can be used to track the success of your nutrition, exercise program or to help you fine-tune athletic performance. BOD POD’s air displacement plethysmography eliminates the low dose radiation of Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) and is therefore well-suited for frequent, longitudinal tracking of body composition and metabolic change. Learn more about the benefits of body composition testing here.
+ How does it work? What should I expect?
You will be asked to wear a swim cap over your hair (you may bring your own), and remove shoes, socks and all jewelry before the test. You will be asked to sit in the Bod Pod for approximately 35-45 seconds for 2-3 rounds of measurement. You will not be able to move or talk.
+ How do I prepare?
It is recommended you complete a two-hour fast prior to your Bod Pod Test. You must not consume alcohol or caffeine four hours prior to the test. This is to ensure accuracy.
+ What do I wear?
You must wear tight fitted clothing to complete the test, natural fibers (e.g. cotton) will interfere with results. Nylon, spandex or lycra material is suggested. Women: compression shorts and a tight-fitting sports bra or bathing suit (no underwire or metal). Men: compression shorts or speedo. Note, large amounts of facial hair can skew results. You will be asked to wear a swim cap to compress your hair. If you have a swim cap, you may bring it, otherwise the staff will provide you with one (You will stay dry!).
+ How can I ensure the most accurate results over time using BOD POD testing?
Because of the use of air displacement, you should replicate what you wore during prior tests as closely as possible. Changes in your clothing and even in your hair (beards included) can skew results.
+ How long until I have my results?
You will receive online access to your results within one business day.
+ Who is it safe to test in a BOD POD?
Because of the non-invasive nature of the testing, anyone 12 years and older can use the Bod Pod, including pregnant people.
