Blood Sugar

Blood sugar, or glucose, is the main sugar found in blood that comes from food. Blood carries glucose to all of the cells in the body to use for energy.

The body regulates blood glucose levels so that they are neither too high nor too low because the blood's internal environment must remain stable for the body to function properly. This balance is known as homeostasis.

Diabetes is a disease in which one’s blood sugar levels are elevated.

Blood glucose levels change throughout the day. After eating, levels rise and then go down after about an hour. They are at their lowest point before the first meal of the day.
